I'm A Celebrity viewers might be fooled into thinking Dean McCullough and Melvin Odoom don't know each other on the outside world.
Both radio stars are taking part in this year's series of the hit ITV competition in the Australian jungle. The pair have kept their distance from each other so far and on Sunday's opening episode Dean stunned fans when he ditched co-worker Melvin. Dean opted to cosy up to Queen of the WAGs Coleen Rooney, leaving his colleague hanging in the very first task of the series.
Viewers were shocked by his decision as Greg James even branded Dean a "snake". Many fans of the show may not be aware Dean and Melvin actually work together on BBC Radio 1. Melvin hosts the mid-morning show with Rickie and Charlie having joined the radio station in 2019.
He had previously worked at KISS Breakfast and has gone on to do TV work. Dean joined BBC Radio 1 in 2020, having started his career on Gaydio. Before heading Down Under to compete on the show, both Dean and Melvin opened up to co-star Greg James about doing I'm A Celebrity.
Dean joked: "I just can't believe we are going to be in there with Wagatha Christie [Coleen Rooney]. We're going to get away with nothing." Greg decided to test Dean and Melvin's friendship as he asked: "Is it going to be an alliance or is there going to be a fallout here?"

However, during Sunday night's opening episode of I'm A Celebrity, the stars faced their inaugural challenge of the ITV series, with five stars skydiving onto a beach to join the rest of the campmates.
McFly's Danny Jones bravely went first, teaming up with ex-boxer Barry McGuigan before they hopped into Jeeps to race for the title of camp leader. N-Dubz's Tulisa Contostavlos chose Corrie legend Alan Halsall, Jane Moore picked her Loose Women pal GK Barry, leaving Coleen and Melvin as the last ones standing.
Dean was next to make a sandy landing, causing a stir among viewers as he called out Coleen's infamous moniker for the very first time on air. Sprinting towards Coleen and his Radio 1 colleague, Dean exclaimed: "Melvin I'm so, so sorry, but... Wagatha Christie, you're coming with me!"
Coleen winced and chuckled as she dashed off with her new teammate. However, she wasn't the only one left cringing as Dean and Melvin's colleague Greg shared a snap of himself pulling a quizzical face as he told his followers: "Urrrm Dean didn't pick Melvin?!" The cheeky broadcaster then shared a still of Barry getting cosy with a snake, captioning it: "They should send Dean in as one of the snakes after that behaviour."
Fans also noticed Dean's snub to Melvin as one viewer said: "Wait. Dean didn’t pick Melvin?? The teams at Radio 1 must be FUMING #ImACeleb." Another added: "I wasn’t expecting dean turning down Melvin #ImACeleb." Someone else wrote: "Dean has just stabbed Melvin in the back lol #ImACeleb."
