Most Haunted star Yvette Fielding has revealed the unusual clue that could signify you are not alone in your own house

Yvette Fielding is Britain's go-to ghost hunter

Most Haunted star Yvette Fielding is Britain's go-to ghost hunter and since launching the hit show, she learned a thing or two about spotting spooks. From peculiar noises to items being moved around the house at night, there are many signs that your house could be haunted. In fact, new research has found that a quarter (26%) of Brits have either thought, or are currently convinced, they’re living in a haunted house.

But aside from the obvious signs, Yvette, who is currently working with video doorbell company Ring in a quest to find Britain's most haunted house, revealed to the Mirror that one of the strangest and often overlooked signs of a haunting is finding random puddles of water on your floor with no logical explanation.

“Sometimes, you’ll walk into a room and find water just sitting there, in the middle of the floor,” she explains. “It’s not a leak from the ceiling, it’s not a spill — there’s no clear reason for it. The water just appears, and it can happen in the most random spots.”

So if this happens, don’t rush to call the plumber just yet - as it could be a sign of a ghostly presence in your home. The other signifiers that the paranormal expert has pinpointed as perhaps showing you are not alone include hearing footsteps, electrical appliances turning on and off, unanswered phone calls, tapping sounds and random voices.

However, getting rid of ghosts could be easier than you think. Yvette advises that the best way is to simply ask them to leave. “Nine out of ten times, if you show respect, they will leave,” she says. “The best approach is to talk out loud. Say something like, ‘Please don’t scare me or my family. You’re frightening us, and I don’t like it. If it continues, I’ll have to ask for help to ask you to leave. Please respect our family.’”

Over the years on Most Haunted, which ran from 2002 to 2019, fans have been transfixed as they watched Yvette get locked in a room by a ghost, get physically assaulted and even temporarily possessed. But the presenter maintains many of her interactions have also been positive. “I have had some wonderful and thought provoking experiences, and messages from beyond the grave which tells us what life after death is like,” she muses.

“I’m not afraid of dying,” she reflects. “I can’t wait to reunite with my dad and other family members. We need to stop fearing death — it’s a transition to a beautiful place where we’ll be with our loved ones again.”
