I’m Curvy And Always Struggled To Find Jeans – Until I Found This High Street Pair

2 weeks ago 6

It took years of searching but I finally discovered the best-fitting denim that makes me feel good.

What makes for the perfect pair of jeans? That depends entirely on whom you might ask. For those around or under the 5’5″ mark, the struggle with finding petite jeans lies in leg length, while the waist to bum ratio remains a bugbear for pear-shaped women. For plus-size women, the issue lies in all of the above and more. As a curvy girl myself, shopping for jeans is always something of a nightmare. If the waist isn't too small, there's an awkward gap at the waistband. Either the crotch is too baggy or the material is wrapped around the thighs too tightly for comfort. If, somehow, the jeans tick all these boxes and miraculously fit well, I usually have to settle for a shade of denim I don't like.

I've tried on my fair share of denim across high street and designer labels and have amassed piles of jeans that are either unwearable without a belt or need to be styled with an oversized knit or shirt to hide the waistband gap or unflattering fit. So when I say I've found my perfect pair of jeans, you know they haven't come without the hunt and, happily for curvy women on a budget like me, they come from high street hero Abercrombie & Fitch. Of all the styles the brand has to offer, it's the Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jeans, £75 which has quickly become the go-to style for me – and many influencers –for it's perfect tailor-made fit.

Y2K inspired with a relaxed fit and raw hem, there's nothing we don't love about these straight fit jeans. We suggest getting one in a variety of washes to stock up your denim collection for years to come.

Straddling the line between trendy and timeless as all good jeans should, it offers a high rise fit that hits your curves just right while the relaxed straight leg is as universally flattering as it gets. The silhouette is cut with enough room at the thigh in a way that feels like it was thoughtfully crafted for plus-size bodies. The best part, however, is that it comes in an array of denim washes for every possible taste. While I personally love the medium blue shade, the inky dark wash is bang on-trend for 2024. Plus, it comes in an array of lengths, so whether you're a tall girl or more on the petite side, there's a perfect pair for you. The only con is that the jeans tend to err on the larger side of the sizing spectrum so we recommend sizing down when you order.

That's not the only good option though. Despite swearing off low-waist jeans back in 2014, I've found a surprising favourite in the Abercrombie & Fitch Curve Love Low Rise Baggy Jeans, £75. Perfectly draping across the body, the low rise jeans actually fit the waist well. Pair with a chunky knit or band tee and cool trainers (we're still loving Puma's Speedcats) and you've got an unarguably cool street style 'fit.

Despite a controversial low rise waist, you'll find these baggy jeans actually work well with almost everything in your wardrobe from striped button-downs and oversized jumpers to classic white T-shirts and even tank tops for the summer.

Looking for something more trend-led? There's a great barrel leg option for a chic tapered fit. The wide-leg options, meanwhile, are a great everyday casual choice while the relaxed jeans are excellent for a slouchy fit that'll pair well with your nice tops for evening drinks or a night out.
