Although your perfume choice is a very personal thing, there’s often a scent or note that has a trending moment, and this autumn it's all about cherry scents. Perfect for pairing with the colour of the season, burgundy, cherry perfumes are the ideal way to bring something fresh to your autumnal outfits.
I decided to put four different fragrances with cherry notes to the test to see which ones are worth spending your money on, not to mention which ones I would keep wearing long after the trend is over – very important considering how long perfumes last. Although they each contain main notes of cherry, all four scents smell very different, so there’s a fragrance for everyone no matter what your preferred perfume is.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Cherry - £76.80 (was £96)

Faith Richardson)Starting strong with one of my all-time favourite perfumes, the YSL Black Opium is one of the best-selling perfumes of all time. It first launched the new cherry version for Valentine’s Day earlier this year, and it’s been a go-to on my dressing table ever since. It has the classic notes of coffee and vanilla that make the original such a hit, with juicy cherry and mandarin essence making it much zestier and less sugary. It’s still just the right balance of sweet and floral, and I always get compliments every time I wear it. A must buy.
Elie Saab Elixir Love Eau de Parfum - £95

Faith Richardson)I initially wasn’t sure about this one – it has a certain “old lady” fragrance when you very first spritz it, and I almost immediately decided it wasn’t for me. However after about 10 minutes it dried down to leave a beautifully warm and woody scent thanks to the oakmoss, ambroxan and patchouli. However, the top notes of cherry and floral heart notes of jasmine and rose lift it into a much sweeter, sophisticated scent that I ended up absolutely loving. Plus, it lasts forever.
Q by Dolce & Gabbana – £96 (was £120)

Faith Richardson)An undeniably feminine fragrance, I was immediately a fan of the D&G perfume. Apart from its gorgeous bottle design and pink-toned liquid, Q has a light, fresh and floral scent that’s uplifting and easy to wear both day and night. It has top notes of Sicilian lemon, red orange and jasmine petals, with the cherry notes taking over at the heart. It finishes with more earthy notes like cedarwood and both crystal musk and soft musk, which stop it being too overwhelmingly fruity.
Edeniste Oud Ghazal – £240

Faith Richardson)This may be the priciest on the list, but it has the most unbelievable longevity, and a little really does go a long way. I did a single spritz on each wrist and immediately felt almost overpowered by its smell. Thankfully it dried down to more subtle scent after a little while, and I could still smell it more than 12 hours later. This is a very different perfume to the others, with a much more masculine and deep scent that oud lovers will be obsessed with. Although its black cherry accord top note wasn’t instantly recognisable, it has a gorgeous smokey, sweet scent thanks to the combination of peppercorn, cardamom, oud, vetiver and cedar amongst others.
