In What If Season 3’s First Trailer, a Storm Is Coming

1 week ago 3

Marvel and Disney+ have just released a trailer for the third and final season of What If…?, and it looks like the Watcher is asking some pretty unexpected questions this time around. Have a look:

In addition to a Wild West adventure with Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop (why not, right?), we get a newly revised Avengers team forming a giant mech robot à la Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; an interstellar Darcy/Howard the Duck team-up; and most excitingly of all, Storm of the X-Men (voiced by the animated series/X-Men ’97‘s Alison Sealy-Smith, no less) wielding Mjolnir as the Goddess of Thunder! And from the looks of things, her involvement may lead to some sort of battle against the Watchers, themselves (not to mention that giant octopus monster bleeding in from another dimension—Shuma Gorath, perhaps?).

According to a Marvel press release, the third season of What If…? will once again see “classic characters making unexpected choices that will mutate their worlds into spectacular alternate versions of the MCU,” while promising to include appearances from “fan-favorite characters like Captain America/Sam Wilson, the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes, Hulk/Bruce Banner, the Red Guardian, Captain Peggy Carter, Agatha Harkness, Shang-Chi, Storm the Goddess of Thunder, and numerous others.”

Judging from the trailer, those “numerous others” include, but are by no means limited to, Nebula, Moon Knight, Dormammu, Yondu, Kahori, the Eternals, Ying Nan, White Vision, Korg… honestly, with the cel shading it’s a little difficult to differentiate some of these characters apart from each other at first glance (their features are just too symmetrical!), but there’s more MCU lore to blow up and dig around in than Speedball’s last visit to Stamford, Connecticut.

Which alternate take on the Marvel Universe are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments as we eagerly await What If…? season three December 22 on Disney+.
