Instagram location sharing feature is the latest trick up Meta’s sleeve; Here’s what we know

3 hours ago 4

Meta is bringing a few new features to Instagram and one of the most prominent ones is the location sharing feature. The feature will focus on making it easier for people to create opportunities for hangouts directly through Instagram DMs. Meta introduced the feature in their official blog post by saying, ‘Spend more time together, and less time coordinating.’

To keep privacy in check, the location can be shared individually by DMs or in a group chat. The feature gets automatically turned off by default and the real-time location is only available for an hour. In addition, Instagram will also display an indicator to mark when the location is being shared. And it is advised to people, never ever share your location with individuals you don’t know personally as that can pose a threat to your safety.

The feature is similar to Apple’s Find My but there are a few differences here. First things first, Apple’s Find My will gives you an option to always share the location but Instagram doesn’t. As of now, the feature has not been released for all the users all around the globe. Speculations are that the feature will soon make it to the stable version of the application.

Instagram is also bringing new sticker packs for DMs along with custom nicknames apart from the location sharing feature. For example, the users will be able to assign nicknames to themselves in different chats. This feature is going to add a more personal touch to the conversations on the platform for sure. That being said, Instagram keeps bringing new features for the convenience of the users. There are high chances we could see a couple more alterations in the application before the year ends.
