A soap expert has weighed in on a fan theory suggesting that Joel Deering might have survived the night he was attacked by several Weatherfield residents. This comes after viewers noticed a 'blunder' at the conclusion of Coronation Street's major 'whodunnit' plotline.
As fans of the ITV soap will recall, Joel, (Calum Lill), made his debut on the cobbles in September 2023 as a charismatic lawyer who quickly won over Dee-Dee Bailey. However, it wasn't long before his dark secret was revealed - a disturbing attraction to young, disadvantaged girls, including local teenager Lauren Bolton, whom he groomed and assaulted before leaving her for dead.
It was confirmed that Joel had been killed with a heavy weapon before being dumped in the water, putting several Weatherfield residents under suspicion. The identity of Joel's killer was finally revealed in a special episode last week, featuring flashbacks from the night of the murder interspersed with DC Kit Green's police interviews, revealing the true events of September 27th, reports the Manchester Evening News.

While Max Turner, who had confessed to killing Joel in self-defence, did confront Joel, it was actually Lauren who delivered the fatal blow with a brick as Joel attacked her boyfriend, resulting in his death. However, eagle-eyed Corrie fans spotted what they believed to be a significant error, taking to social media to question why Joel's body was found in a 'body bag', despite Max and Lauren not using one when they panicked and disposed of his body in the water.
Soap lovers were left in a tizz over the supposed death of Coronation Street's Joel when some eagle-eyed viewers thought they spotted a clue suggesting he wasn't really dead. But This Morning's 'Queen of Soaps' has stepped in to set the record straight on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, after being bombarded with questions from the show's fans clamouring for answers.
Come and join The Daily Star on Bluesky, the social media site set up by ex-Twitter boss Jack Dorsey. It's now the new go-to place for content after a mass exodus of the Elon Musk-owned Twitter/X.

She cleared up the confusion, saying: "Ok., to answer this one.., Joel was not in a body bag! He was face down, his jacket wet and it was a trick of the light that a rock looked like his head... Joel IS dead. There is no extra twist coming."
Fans heaved a sigh of relief at the confirmation and quick to express their thanks online. @sjeananneb posted: "Thanks Sharon, this has kept my mum and I debating the possibility since Friday's ep."
@SouthernCazza1 gratefully said: "Thank you, thank you and thank you! This has been driving me nuts! And of course now that you've said it and pointed it out how on earth did I think that rock was Joel's head? You're a star #Corrie."
@sapphicfun chimed in with a chuckle: "Thank you Sharon, this has been bugging me for ages. I can sleep at night now."
Satisfied @Sapphic_joy tweeted: "Thank you for clearing this up. I've been wanting to scream 'there was no body bag' for days but I'm too polite! ! " And @AmyJoSays commented: "Oh! I didn't see how the rock looked like a head but the jacket definitely looked like he was wrapped in something. Thank you for clarifying."
