Coronation Street star Alison King has admitted to being swept up in a wave of emotion during the filming of her on-screen husband Chris Gascoyne's final scenes.

The pair, who have been central to some of the ITV soap's most touching storylines, particularly over Christmas 2023 when Peter Barlow made his tearful exit from Weatherfield, have kept fans enthralled with their rollercoaster relationship.

Alison, famed for her portrayal of Carla Connor, and Chris, aged 56, have been at the core of Weatherfield drama for more than a decade, with their second marriage in 2021 marking a high point in their tumultuous yet steadfast romance.

Despite numerous challenges, their connection proved indestructible until its poignant end last year, as reported by OK! Magazine.

The 51 year old actress reflected on the intensity of the shoot, saying, "We're filming solidly together for two days," and confessed, "There was a lot to learn. But aside from that, it was amazing, but it was so emotional, I did not need any tear stick for those scenes. There was no way of knowing what would happen because every time we did it I literally filled up with emotion and started crying at different times in every scene."

Alison King, famed for her role as Carla on the iconic soap Coronation Street, has been singing praises of her co-star Chris Gascoyne and his exceptional acting skills.

She was quoted in an OK! interview saying, "Just seeing a different look from Chris would set me off because he's so wonderful at the Meisner technique, which involves an actor reacting to another actor's performance and behaviour, he's so reactive. That's why I've loved working with him so much, it's always about the reaction. We can do things 1000 different ways in each take. And he's so brilliant every single time, it was just a different journey, and you're absolutely spent, and it's such a roller coaster of emotions", reports the Mirror.

The actress further reflected on the poignant farewell scenes with Peter Barlow, noting, "Even though it doesn't go into specific details of all their past, it shows what they're like as a couple. It was really nice to have that much time on them because people seem to enjoy them just having a conversation. It was something to get our teeth into with all the emotions, and it was a real journey. It was really, really lovely to do those scenes."

Meanwhile, Alison's character, Carla, has been finding new directions in her life following Peter's emotional exit. The revered Underworld boss is stirring up the romance department once again as she grows closer to DS Lisa Swain.

Despite initial impressions of platonic friendship, the duo's deepening bond has left fans speculating over a potential romantic plot twist on the cobbles.
