Luca Bish returns to the Love Island villa this year with other previous contestants to take a second stab at finding love within its walls. But, escaping the freezing cold UK might prompt a common skin issue to resurface for the former fishmonger.

The second All Stars series, hosted by Maya Jama, begins this Monday, January 13, on ITV2. Back in 2023, Bish shared an Instagram post that he captioned "102 Dalmatians." In it, he lay topless in a garden, with small patches of his skin appearing white against his tan.

Known as pityriasis versicolor, which can also be called tinea versicolor, it's actually a fairly common 'fungal skin infection'. It can be worsened by heat, humidity and sun exposure.

The Brighton-born star's mum shared that the problem isn't a permanent issue. She responded to a concerned commenter who had also noticed similar spots on their own skin.

After naming the condition, she said: "It’s treatable with certain anti-dandruff shampoos depending on the severity. Sometimes, a course tablet is needed, which is prescribed by your GP.

"Luca has been prone to it since a child, a tan makes it more prominent. Your GP will be able to prescribe what is needed. It’s not serious and quite common.

"Luca is being treated for it. It can take a few weeks/months to clear. He used to be quite conscious about it. I’m pleased he posted a picture of himself as it’s nothing to be ashamed of."

According to the NHS, the patches are usually pink, red or pale brown on white skin. The health body also confirmed: "You may notice the patches do not tan in the sun".

Luca Bish rose to fame after appearing on Love Island 2022, partnering up with Gemma Owen and finishing the series as runner's up. (

The patches usually appear on the chest, upper back, upper arms, neck or stomach. The patches are flat and round and can join up to form large areas. They may look scaly and can sometimes be itchy.

Pityriasis versicolor is caused by a type of fungus that lives on the skin. Most people have this fungus on their skin without it causing any problems. But sometimes it can grow and spread more than usual, causing pityriasis versicolor. It’s not always clear why this happens.

Other conditions can have similar symptoms to pityriasis versicolor such as vitiligo. If you are concerned about any changes to you body that cannot be explained, see a GP.

The 25-year-old first appeared on Love Island in 2022 when he coupled up with Gemma Owen, the daughter of English striker Michael Owen. They remained in a relationship for a brief stint outside the villa but parted ways in November 2022.
