ITV The Chase's Mark Labbett gives up in nailbiting final as he admits 'I'm done'

1 week ago 2

Mark Labbett admitted defeat as he faced a fresh batch of contestants on The Chase.

The Beast, in Tuesday's episode of the ITV quiz show, went head to head against Chris, Sonia, Clementine, and Mark. Leading the charge was history teacher Chris, who correctly answered six questions in the cash builder round.

Despite being enticed by the high offer of £40,000, the 43-year-old chose to stick with his initial sum of £6,000. However, the tables turned when Mark narrowed the gap between them, ultimately eliminating Chris from the game.

Next up to challenge the chaser was 64-year-old Sonia. The office manager only answered two questions correctly in the cash builder, making The Beast's low offer of £1,000 an obvious choice.

Mark Labbett was caught off guard on the ITV show

Sonia became the first contestant in the final chase, leaving her co-star Clementine aiming to follow suit. The 20-year-old demonstrated impressive knowledge, bagging £5,000 in the first round, reports the Express.

Rejecting both Mark's higher and lower offers, she stuck with the £5,000. The undergraduate student proved to be a valuable addition to the team, causing The Beast to fret as she advanced to the final chase.

The last contestant to face The Beast was 58-year-old Mark. Aware of the importance of his contribution to his teammates, Mark declined the high offer, sticking with the £4,000 he earned in his cash builder.

The players put on a great performance

Mark successfully made it to the final chase, leaving The Beast with a real challenge on his hands. In the final chase drama, the savvy trio racked up 17 nailed-on answers, with host Bradley Walsh dropping hints they might've not done enough.

But, against all odds, 'The Beast' Mark struggled after a blinding start. The team pulled off a few crafty pushbacks, leaving the quiz giant needing three more correct answers with the clock dangerously ticking down to eight seconds.

And in an absolute nail-biter, with the clock down to two seconds, Mark threw in the towel and watched the victors strut off with a cool £10,000 prize pot. "Oh, my word. I am done here, so well played, guys," Mark joked just as the buzzer sealed their win.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1.
