A Tipping Point contestant came under fire from viewers after they answered a question incorrectly about a famous detective. During Friday's edition of the ITV quiz show, four new players took to the machine to win a cash prize.
Chris was performing well and managed to accumulate a large jackpot after answering numerous questions right. However, he then suffered an epic blunder when Ben Shephard asked him about the author Ian Rankin.
The popular Scottish crime writer is best known for his Inspector Rebus novels, however Chris was stumped and didn't know the answer.
Explaining that inspectors were not his strong point, he then randomly guessed Sherlock Holmes instead of giving the question a pass. He was then informed that he was incorrect.
Many fans furiously reacted online and couldn't help but comment on the wrong answer. One person said on X: "Sherlock Holmes, give me strength. #TippingPoint."

A second person commented: "Ian Rankin wrote Sherlock Holmes lol...#tippingpoint."
A third fans also chimed in: "I really can’t believe what I’m hearing." A fourth also penned: "OK, so you may not have known the Ian Rankin answer but 'Sherlock f***ing Holmes'? #TippingPoint."
