Gavin & Stacey star James Corden has sparked speculation that much-loved Uncle Bryn will pass away this Christmas.

James, who writes the hit comedy with co-star Ruth Jones, teased fans that the long-awaited Xmas special – the very last episode of the show – will include the character’s funeral.

Stacey’s Uncle Bryn, played by Would I Lie To You? host Rob Brydon, 59, has been in the show since its 2007 pilot.

But at The Global Gift Gala charity event in London this week, James said: “What we were editing today was a very moving and emotional scene at Bryn’s funeral. I’m joking, I promise. Or am I?”

James, 46, who plays Smithy in the BBC smash, has previously admitted the last episode, due to be screened on Christmas Day, will be “hard to watch”.

And when asked if it involved funeral scenes, he replied: “Maybe.”

His latest remarks about Bryn will shock millions of viewers waiting to find out what happened to their favourite characters since the last Gavin & Stacey was aired at Christmas in 2019.

They will be hoping for a happier ending for Nessa and Smithy.

In a cliffhanger ending to the last episode, Nessa, played by Ruth, 58, proposed. Now, five years on, viewers will finally find out if Smithy said yes or no.
