Comedian Janey Godley has been made an honorary doctor by the University of Glasgow, her daughter confirmed.

Earlier today (October 31), her daughter, BBC Radio Scotland presenter Ashley Storrie, revealed her mother is in the 'final beats of her life' in a post shared on the 63-year-old comedian's X account. In the same post, she also revealed that the university gave Janey an honorary degree.

The post read: “Thank you @UofGlasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow. This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life. Janey is so honoured and I am so immensely proud of her. I am always proud of her. Thank you for all your kindness and support to our family in this very difficult time."

The University of Glasgow also added: "It is an honour to bestow an honorary doctorate on the incredible Dr Godley. We send all our love and support to Janey and her family." Ashley also posted pictures of Janey lying in bed and smiling while showing off the certificate from the university.

India Willoughby posted: "Sending love to you both. Richly deserved Janey!" Janey is currently receiving end-of-life care after her terminal cancer spread. The comedian, best known for her Nicola Sturgeon parodies, announced the heartbreaking news of her ovarian cancer in November 2021.

She was given the all-clear in 2022, before later announcing that another scan had shown signs of the disease in her abdomen. She then cancelled her forthcoming tour this autumn due to her stage four ovarian cancer. The stand-up announced she would be getting palliative care and going into a hospice in a video shared to social media.

“So I’m now in palliative care and I’m at end-of-life care now in the hospital”, she said in the video. "The chemo ran out of options and I just couldn’t take any more of it and the cancer has spread.
