Jeremy Clarkson has revealed how punters nicked more than 100 pint glasses from his pub – in just one day.
The 64-year-old former Top Gear star, who snapped up the Cotswolds pub – called The Farmer’s Dog – earlier this year, said folk didn’t think twice about pilfering the glasses.
Writing today (December 22), the TV star said he had 'no idea' about the trails and tribulations of being a pub landlord before snapping up the boozer, which opened in August. He said that last Sunday a whopping 104 pint glasses were stolen from the pub.
That means 9.5 pint glasses were swiped every single hour the boozer – which servers punters from 12pm until 11pm – was open. The Clarkson’s Farm star – who has a fortune of around £55m – said he had been 'naïve' when he bought the pub.
He said he thought he would end up propping up the bar chatting to locals, but that in actual fact it was a constant battle of fixing things that break, cleaning up and trying to stop people nicking things.
He said: "I figured I’d find a chef who’d toil away in the kitchen, turning my farm produce into food.
"I’d be free to lean on the bar all day, nursing a few pints of my own lager while chewing some fat with the stoutly shoed locals."
The TV star said, however, reality was "far from" his dreams, added: "The theft is extraordinary.
"People seem to have it in their heads that if they come in for a pint they are entitled to go home with the glass in which it was served. Last Sunday 104 went missing."
