Jessica Simpson and her husband, Eric Johnson, are navigating a "painful" separation after ten years of marriage.
On Monday (January 13), Simpson told People that she and Johnson, a former San Francisco 49ers tight end, have separated. The spouses share three children, daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," Simpson said in a statement. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
Simpson and Johnson began dating in 2010, just four years before they'd wed at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. The former NFLer has also supported Simpson through her sobriety, as the pop artist told an Instagram troll last August that she hasn't "wanted or touched alcohol" since August 2017.
In an Instagram post upon their sixth anniversary in 2020, Simpson called Johnson her "perfect soulmate."
"Eric Johnson, my Husband, I love you. 6yrs ago today I married my perfect soulmate," she wrote at the time. "Our unity was written in God's sky of colliding stars. Together we manifest dreams, nurture desire, and hold space. Destined, it always has been and always will be, forevermore."
This is Simpson's second marriage, having previously married singer and media personality Nick Lachey, from 2002 to 2006. The former couple documented their early marriage on former MTV reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
