Jimmy Kimmel took another shot at President Donald Trump’s relationship with his wife, Melania Trump, with footage of their arrival in California last week to see the damage caused by a series of wildfires.
The Trumps were met on the airport tarmac by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who the president has frequently attacked.
But Kimmel had another theory.
“Now I happen to believe that Trump likes Gavin Newsom,” Kimmel said. “I think he looks at Gavin Newsom, he’s like ‘damn you, Don Jr., why can’t you...’”
Kimmel showed the two engaged in conversation and tried to translate what they were saying. But it’s what happened next that really caught Kimmel’s attention: As the president turned to walk away, Newsom and the first lady shook hands and exchanged a kiss on the cheek.
“Hello, Melania!” Kimmel said. “The happiest she’s been in quite some time.”
Newsom and Trump then spoke to reporters.
“The governor did his best to make nice, he said in front of reporters to the president, he said ‘you were there for us during COVID and we won’t forget it,’” Kimmel said. “Which is like telling Michael Myers he was there for us Halloween and we won’t forget it.”
