Kamala Harris urges Americans to ‘keep Kamala and carry on-a-la’ on SNL appearance

It felt like a mirror moment during the Saturday Night Live cold open as Kamala Harris gave herself a little pep talk before Election Day on Tuesday.

The real VP made a surprise appearance on NBC's sketch comedy show Saturday, getting a chance to chat with Maya Rudolph, who's been playing Harris since season 50 started in September.

The cold open (watch below) began with a CNN spoof featuring Chloe Fineman as Kaitlan Collins. She first went to James Austin Johnson‘s Donald Trump at a rally, where he talked about his recent garbage truck stunt and controversial Liz Cheney comments. Trump then brought out his running mate, Bowen Yang‘s J.D. Vance, for a few words.

The scene then shifted to a conversation between Rudolph's Harris, Andy Samberg‘s Doug Emhoff, Jim Gaffigan‘s Tim Walz, and Dana Carvey‘s Joe Biden discussing their campaign. But Rudolph's Harris later asked for a moment alone to prep for her final campaign speech.

“Well, this is it, the last campaign stop in Pennsylvania. Gosh, I just wish I could talk to someone who's been in my shoes,” she says. “You know, a Black South Asian woman running for president, preferably from the Bay Area.”

That's when she turns to the mirror and sees the real Harris sitting on the other side, looking back at her. “It is nice to see you Kamala,” the real Harris says. “And I'm just here to remind you, you got this because you can do something your opponent cannot do. You can open doors.”

After Rudolph breaks into her famous impression of the VP's laugh, she says, “Now Kamala, take my palm-ala.” They start finishing each other's sentences: “The American people want to stop the chaos and end the drama-ala with a cool new step-mamala. Look, get back in our pajamas and watch a rom-Kamala, like Legally Blonde-ala. And start decorating for Christmas, Fa-la-la-la-la.”

“Because what do we always say?” Rudolph asks before they say together, “Keep Kamala and carry on-ala.” “We know each other so well,” Rudolph adds. “We even finished each other's belief in the promise of America.”

John Mulaney hosted SNL for the sixth time on Saturday, with musical guest Chappell Roan performing “Pink Pony Club” and debuting a new lesbian country song, “She Gets the Job Done.”

Mulaney's monologue touched on being a new dad, his relationship with actress Olivia Munn, his 2020 rehab stay, and how he's feeling at 42.

Other special guests popping up during the show included Pete Davidson and Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate Tim Kaine from Virginia.
