Karen Huger is facing up to two years behind bars after being found guilty of DUI and four other charges related to her March 19 car accident.
During a court hearing on Wednesday, the 61-year-old Real Housewives of Potomac cast member was seen slurring her speech and hurling profanities at police as she refused to take a field sobriety test in body cam footage. Plus, eyewitnesses gave their insider accounts and a judge concluded that she had been under the influence.
According to a December 19 report from Fox 5 D.C., Karen was found guilty of five out of the six charges against her, including “negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change.”
An additional charge of reckless driving was dismissed.
The judge’s decision came after an emergency medical technician recalled Karen being unsteady on her feet as she declined medical treatment and lashed out at those trying to assist her, and after Karen’s cousin told the court she was emotionally distressed but didn’t seem impaired during a phone call before the accident.
As RHOP fans may recall, Karen crashed her Maserati into a pole in Potomac, Maryland, and later claimed that she was not drunk, but grief-stricken over the death of her parents, who both passed away in 2017.
Meanwhile, the prosecution pointed to the body cam footage, which was solidified by their witnesses and demonstrated “clear signs of intoxication.”
Following the hearing, a series of clips taken amid and after Karen’s arrest were shared on social media.
In one clip, Karen was seen in the back of a patrol car, where she declared she is the “Grand Dame” and name-dropped Andy Cohen, 56.
“What’s your name? I’m Karen. They call me the Grand Dame. I don’t know what the f*ck that means but Andy coined that … Andy Cohen, he called me the Grand Dame,” she mumbled.
In a separate clip of Karen at the police station, she argued with an officer and declared, “I’m Thomas Jefferson’s concubine.”
“No, no, you’re such a f*cking character … Just let that chip go out … I wouldn’t do it. I will rise up. I am who I am … I don’t give a f*ck,” Karen was heard saying. “Can you run that by people? I’m really rich and I will stay in jail for a year or two … I’m sorry. It’s not you. I’m sorry.”

After the court hearing was over, Karen released a statement through her attorney.
“Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we of course respect their decision and appreciate their time hearing our case,” Karen’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, told PEOPLE. “We continue to reserve Mrs. Huger’s right to an appeal and intend to fully pursue justice on her behalf. We appreciate your support and prayers for Mrs. Huger and her family at this time.”
PEOPLE’s report also shared additional details from Karen’s hearing, revealing that one witness said Karen’s car smelled like alcohol and that the reality star struggled with her balance as she stepped into an ambulance, where she reportedly told first responders to “f*ck off” and “go f*ck yourselves.”
Karen was also accused of being “hammered,” which she said was “bullsh*t.”
Karen’s attorney previously attempted to have the case dismissed, suggesting that the evidence gathered against their client was illegally obtained.
Karen will be sentenced on January 29, 2025.
