Saturday night (Nov. 09, 2024) marked Kate Middleton‘s first public appearance since her cancer treatment announcement, and this year's Festival of Remembrance was a touching event with several nods to Princess Diana.
As Kate joined King Charles and other senior royals at Royal Albert Hall on Nov. 9, she and Prince William were visibly moved during a moment that brought back a special memory from their wedding, linked to the late princess.
During the concert honoring the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces, Kate and William became emotional as the orchestra played “Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer” – a hymn first played at Princess Diana's funeral that has become a meaningful way for her sons to remember their mother.
The couple honored Diana's memory by including this moving song at their 2011 wedding. After the performance, it was noted as one of the “favourites of the couple” on the music program, according to The Daily Mail. Similarly, Prince Harry was seen getting choked up when he and Meghan Markle played the same hymn at their 2018 wedding.
The nostalgic music wasn't the only tribute to Diana at this year's Festival. Kate also wore the late royal's pearl earrings for her Royal Albert Hall appearance. Pairing a tailored black coat dress with her bright red poppy brooch – honoring fallen soldiers – Kate sported her signature blowout with one side tucked behind her ear, showcasing Diana's Collingwood pearl drop earrings.
The following day, Kate made another radiant appearance at Remembrance Sunday, subtly referencing her late mother-in-law through her fashion choices. The princess wore a black Catherine Walker & Co. coat dress, featuring '80s padded shoulders and a black velvet pussy bow – a nod to one of Diana's favorite brands. Kate's Bahrain pearl drop earrings, once worn by Queen Elizabeth, paid homage to the late monarch.
