Katie Price has opened up about making the first move with her current beau, JJ Slater, because of his public revelation about having type 1 diabetes.
The pair's connection started when Katie reached out on Instagram after reading about the former Married at First Sight star—real name John Joe—and his health condition.
This led to a coffee date and eventually a budding romance. Intriguingly, Katie disclosed that JJ had previously tried to get in touch with her, but she hadn't noticed his message according to reports in the Mirror.
They decided to proceed "slowly" with their relationship starting from February. Speaking to Woman's Own, Katie expressed that she wasn't looking for love when JJ came into her life.
She commented: "I'd read in the paper that he'd got diabetes. I thought, 'Wow, that's quite harsh,' as diabetes is a life-changing thing to have.
"I messaged and said, 'I hope you're okay with your diabetes'. And he said, 'Oh, I'm really embarrassed.' I went 'Why? ' Turns out he'd messaged me two years ago but I never saw it. It must have been deleted so it was obviously meant to be."
Elsewhere, Katie revealed that JJ's initial attempt to contact her was complimenting her appearance. At that time, Katie had parted ways with former boyfriend Carl Wood and was feeling "mentally exhausted" with matters of the heart.

Katie has been heaping praise on JJ, calling him "so calming and easy" and crediting him for showing her "what a healthy relationship is". Despite their strong connection, the couple have opted to "take it slowly", a mutual choice following JJ's split from MAFS star Ella Morgan.
The mum-of-five hasn't dismissed the idea of JJ being "The One", yet she admits she's in "no rush" to walk down the aisle again. Although Katie, who shot to fame as Jordan on The Sun's Page 3, would "love" another marriage—having already had three—she notes that JJ is "old fashioned" and "hasn't even put a ring on my finger yet".
