Royal enthusiasts were left aghast after spotting the late Princess Diana's famed cross necklace, which they say has been stripped of its "timeless elegance" following its appearance on a 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' celeb. At the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala on November 2, Kim Kardashian was seen sporting the exquisite Attallah Cross, now deemed by fans as a "flashy, vulgar accessory".
The reality TV sensation paired the striking amethyst piece with a low-cut, floor-sweeping white dress and a casually draped white coat. Disgruntled comments flooded social media platform X, with one fan lamenting: "While Diana wore it with grace and dignity, symbolizing royalty, #Kim has turned it into a flashy, vulgar accessory, losing its timeless elegance. A true icon knows how to preserve the legacy."
Kim Kardashian has snapped up the iconic Attallah Cross at a Sotheby's auction for a cool $200,000 (£168,000) this year, turning heads when she rocked it for the first time recently, sparking quite the buzz. One social media critique highlighted Kim's "provocative" pairing: "Princess Diana was such a class act. It's a shame such a beautiful and significant piece of jewellery was cheapened like this."

Another expressed dismay: "There is no way this is what Diana would have wanted."
A comment read: "For most, it's not necessarily because it's a cross. It's because it was Princess Diana's, who people loved for her and her class, and turning that image into trashy would have bothered her - and obviously anyone who was a fan of Princess Diana."
However, other admirers praised Kim's fashion choice, with one fan declaring: "Kim wears it better."
A second chimed in, "Gorgeous looking," and another added, "She [Kim] looks amazing."

Princess Diana famously donned the pendant, paired with pearls, to a 1987 charity gala while garbed in a lavish purple velvet Catherine Walker dress.
The Attallah Cross, originally crafted by Garrand in the 1920s, boasts square-cut amethysts encircled by 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds. The late Princess of Wales was often seen wearing it at various events, including film and theatre premieres.
