Kim Kardashian is bracing herself as her ex-husband Kanye “Ye” West is set to “share his side of the story” in his upcoming Netflix documentary, In Whose Name?, a source exclusively tells In Touch.
“Kanye’s relationship with Kim and her family is not good, and while she tries to keep the peace with him, they’ve had arguments over the phone that could end up being used in the doc,” the insider says. “And he doesn’t care about being popular or liked or politically correct.”
The “Heartless” rapper, 47, has been filming continuously for the last six years and his former family is concerned about what might make the final cut. The documentary “promises to offer a unique and cinematic perspective on Ye’s public transformation,” according to Variety.
“With a billion-dollar budget and a commitment to truth, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, invites 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros armed with an iPhone on a six-year journey revealing unfiltered aspects of celebrity life which confront the provocative opinions, grand visions and bold contrarianism that defined him as the world’s most controversial artist,” the synopsis reads. “The film follows Ye’s ascent to becoming the richest Black man in American history while uncovering why the superstar risked everything he had built in the name of freedom. Examining the culture that birthed the star, ‘In Whose Name?’ explores the overlapping influences of corporate exploitation, racial complexities and psychological struggles inherent in the American dream.”
The film is reportedly slated for a release date sometime in 2025.
The Chicago native has plenty of material to cover, as he’s made headlines in recent years less for his music and more for controversies, including his high-profile divorce from the reality TV star. Since his 2021 split from Kim, 44, the pair have clashed over everything from who she dates to how she parents North, 11, Saint, 8, Chicago, 6, and Psalm, 5.
Sources exclusively told In Touch on October 31 that Kanye was considering putting his life on a TV show similar to his ex-wife’s show The Kardashians, as he has “thousands and thousands of hours of footage” racked up over the years that would likely attract viewership.
“He could get the kids involved, which, of course, would be Kim’s worst nightmare,” the source explained, “but there’s not much she can do about it. They appear on her show, so she can’t use that argument, and they akimdore their dad, so odds are they’re going to want to be on his show.”
The insider said it was a “worst-case scenario situation” for Kim and her mother, Kris Jenner, adding that Ye’s “inevitably going to pull them into the show, even if it’s just him talking about them.”
“But they do the same on their show, so why can’t he do the same?” the insider concluded.
Despite their complicated dynamic, Kim has worked hard to ensure their four children have a strong relationship with their father, making sure not to speak negatively about Ye in their presence.
“One day my kids will thank me for not sitting here and bashing their dad when I could,” she said during Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast in December 2022. “They’ll thank me and I’ll privately answer anything that they want to know. But it’s not my place anymore to jump in.”
