The boy band singer's sudden death sparked renewed questions about the dark side of fame. How did the 31-year-old's brilliant star fade so dramatically?"
The special is to feature interviews with people like X Factor's Mary Byrne, who shared the stage with Payne in 2016, plus superfan Natalie Barada and ABC News experts Chris Connelly, Kelley Carter and Megan Ryte. Fans have slated the special on social media.
One troubled fan fumed: "Wow disgusting, but anything in order to gain profit I guess. even exploiting such an horrific death," while another voiced: "He is not buried yet and y'all are ready to profit off him. It's sickening."
A third agreed: "I don't even believe the family has buried this man yet but yet ABC News wants to do a special," with yet another adding: "It's been one week."
Liam tragically died at the age of 31 last Wednesday (October 16) after falling from his third-floor balcony in Argentina. Reports suggest he had consumed a cocktail of drugs known as 'pink cocaine' prior to his untimely death, reports the Mirror.
The autopsy reportedly revealed traces of the lethal Class-A drug, which is a potent mix of MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack. This designer drug, originating from the 1970s and re-emerging in Colombia around 2010, has seen a surge in popularity across Latin America and Europe.
Pink cocaine, identifiable by its distinctive pink hue, has been associated with an increasing number of drug-related fatalities in recent years. Friends have since alleged that local drug dealers targeted Liam, who was reportedly clean just two days before his death, following medical tests for his American visa renewal.
