Liam Payne's cause of death has been confirmed.

The late star fell to his death from the third floor of a hotel building in the Argentinian capital. Police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of a hotel building after Liam tragically fell. Police are said to have been called to reports of a man acting aggressively at the hotel who could be under the effect of drink or drugs.

An autopsy on his death states this was consistent with a fall from height, located on the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel on Godoy Cruz Street. The Sistema de Atencio Medica de Emergencia said in a statement on October 16: "British musician Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo.

"In the afternoon, police personnel from Precinct 14B were directed to the hotel by a 911 call reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol." Meanwhile, the Security Minister of Buenos Aires told the Associated Press that Liam had "jumped from the balcony of his hotel room" which caused "extremely serious injuries."

In a press release, the Argentina National Prosecutor's office shed light on Liam's death, stating his death was caused by "polytrauma and internal and external bleeding." They said that the death was "doubtful/undetermined" meaning that there was no conclusive information. After his devastating death, "a series of substances were seized from the musician’s room, which would prove a previous situation of alcohol and drugs consumption," they confirmed.

The prosecutor's office reiterated that Payne died from "multiple traumatic injuries" and "internal bleeding" from the fall from height. 25 injuries "compatible with those produced by a fall from height," were found on his body, with his brain and skull injuries being "sufficiently suitable to cause death".

Liam's internal and external haemorrhages in his skull, chest, abdomen and limbs all contributed to his death. They believe that Liam may have fell into a state of semi or total unconsciousness before his fall. Additional inquests were made to discover whether drugs or alcohol had been in Liam's system at the time of his death.

It was claimed that he had pink cocaine in his system. This is a cocktail of drugs which doesn't include cocaine is instead filled with methamphetamine, MDMA, ketamine and more. It's claimed that Liam also had cocaine, crack and benzodiazepine in his system at the time of his death.

In the wake of Liam's death, Buenos Aires police raided the hotel where he had been staying. A government official told The Associated Press on late last month that personnel from the Special Investigations Division went to the Casa Sur Hotel on to carry out the raid ordered by the prosecutor's office in charge of the case. During the raid, agents seized computer hard drives.

Almost one month on from his death, Liam's body returned to the UK on Thursday morning with his dad, Geoff and former security guard, Paul Higgins joining him on his final journey. The group took a British Airways flight from Buenos Aires, with a brief stop in Rio de Janeiro before arriving at London's Heathrow earlier this morning.

While no plans have yet been announced for his funeral, it's believed that the family will make an announcement in due course on how fans can honour Liam's life, legacy and global career as one fifth of the world's biggest boyband.
