Liam Payne's ex Maya Henry was not mystery 'partner' in hotel at time of death

Liam Payne's ex-fiancée Maya Henry has been ruled out as the ex-partner who reportedly stayed at the same hotel as the singer.

The 31 year old died after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, suffering multiple traumas that led to an "internal and external haemorrhage". A hotel worker, Esteban Grassi, told an Argentinian TV programme: "He was seen alone but his ex-partner was around."

When asked on El Trece show Telenoche if she was staying at the hotel too, he confirmed: "Yes," before adding: "A floor above, yes." Fans speculated whether the mysterious partner could have been Liam's former fiancée Maya Henry.

However, sources close to the star have since dismissed this. Speaking to the Mirror, a source clarified: "Maya Henry has never been to Argentina, and she was not back with Liam Payne."

A snippet of the programme featuring a portion of the interview has been shared online and also referenced in other Argentinian media outlets. It was not clarified who Mr Grassi was alluding to in his statement.

He is believed to be one of three hotel employees that prosecutors have disclosed they interrogated. Liam's girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had been vacationing in the Latin American country with him but departed just two days prior to his tragic death, expressing her desire to return home to Florida.

Addressing her decision to leave, Kate informed her online followers: "I was ready to go back... Honestly, I love South America, but I hate being in one place for too long. We were supposed to stay for five days, but it turned into two weeks and I needed to get home."

Investigators have suggested they do not suspect any "third-party" involvement in Liam's death but have emphasised that the search continues amid rumours that someone from his hotel provided him with drugs. Earlier this week, Argentinian news portal Infobae reported that forensic experts had found traces of cocaine in Liam's body, but tests on the white powder have so far been "inconclusive."
