Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy reportedly felt like she was in a "hostage situation" during her trip to Argentina before making her solo return to the US, a friend of hers revealed.
The 25-year-old influencer jetted off to the South American country with the former One Direction singer, where they attended Niall Horan's concert in Buenos Aires.
Initially, Kate had only planned a brief four-day stay, yet found herself prolonging her visit to over a fortnight.
While Liam was stuck awaiting his American visa renewal, Kate was itching to get back to the States. According to a source close to the social media star, Liam's pleas for her to remain resulted in her repeatedly postponing her departure until she finally flew back to Florida.
Just days later, Liam, 31, died after sustaining injuries "incompatible with life" following a fall from a balcony.

Speaking to the New York Post, one of Kate's friends disclosed that she feared Liam might embark on a wild spree once she left, but this didn't change the fact that she wanted to return to the comfort of her home and their dog.
The friend expressed: "She can't leave, or else who knows what will happen? And if she leaves, what will he do? But she has other responsibilities, other things that she's supposed to be doing. So she finally had to make a decision."
They elaborated: "They're in Argentina and it's like a hostage situation. So she tells him she wants to leave, this is after a week. He begs her to stay. She keeps extending her trip, a day, two days. And he just wants her to stay, stay, stay.
"I get what people are saying, that she should just stay with her rich, famous boyfriend, but she wanted to be home in her own bed with her dog. She wanted to come home. So eventually she says she's going home."
A post-mortem examination report disclosed that Liam succumbed to multiple traumas, including an "internal and external haemorrhage" after falling from a third-floor balcony at Buenos Aires' Casa Sur Hotel.

Kate penned a poignant tribute to her partner on Instagram, revealing how Liam planned to propose to her within the next year. The TikTok star recognised the "happiness and positivity" Liam brought to his friends and family, adding that he was the love of her life.
She continued: "I can't wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I'm struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side."
Kate recalled how they'd recently sat "manifesting our lives together" and divulged having kept a cherished note from the singer safely with her which said: "Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444."
"Liam, I know we'll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned," she went on. "You'll always be with me. I've gained a guardian angel.
Kate concluded the emotional post: "I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go."
