Though she got her start in showbiz at the ripe old age of three, Lindsay Lohan has always stood on business.
In fact, for her famous role in the 1998 film The Parent Trap, the budding actress was ready to talk salary negotiations when she was just 12. In a recent interview, she revealed that she insisted Disney CEO Michael Eisner pay her “double” for taking on two roles—Lohan played twins Annie and Hallie.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the 38-year-old recalled the moment Eisner jokingly asked her where her twin sister was at the film’s premiere.
“‘Where’s your twin?’” she says he asked.
“I was so young, I don’t even know how I thought to say this but I’ll never forget what I said,” the actress added.
“I said, ‘Well, you should have paid me double ’cause I don’t have one.’”
For those unfamiliar, The Parent Trap follows two long-lost twin sisters, Hallie and Annie Parker, who, while attending a summer camp, discover they were separated at birth by their parents following a divorce.
Annie was raised by her wedding dress designer mother in London, while Hallie and her vintner father called Napa Valley, California home. While getting to know each other, the girls hatch a plan to swap places to see what their respective parents are like. Naturally, chaos and wholesome antics ensue.
The Nancy Meyers-directed film was a box office hit and continues to be a favourite amongst many.
When opening up about her experience portraying both twins, Lohan noted that others on set helped keep her in character.
“You’re stepping out of your comfort zone, and you kind of become the other character,” she said. “I feel like people treated me differently when I was Annie, because Annie was so much nicer and Hallie was just kind of like me.”
While we often hear about the toxic environments fostered for child stars in Hollywood and how they can be taken advantage of, Lohan clearly learned a thing or two about business from her momager.
“This is the daughter of Dina Lohan,” quipped Cohen.
