Just in case you thought bob haircuts were so last year, think again. While the classic style has enjoyed certain staying power through iterations like Keke Palmer's chin-grazing "cowboy copper" bob and Khloé Kardashian's voluminous Italian bob, there's one interpretation that's grabbed our attention like no other — Lisa Rinna's "box" bob. A far departure from her signature spikey, layered pixie, the actor took major risks with her beauty choices for Paris Haute Couture Week while supporting her daughter Amelia Gray Hamlin as she walked designer shows. For the Stéphane Rolland show on Jan. 28, Rinna wore a dark brown bob, complete with ultra-short micro bangs that ended right above her brows and flipped ends that curled toward her chin.
While Rinna wore a bowl-cut during Fashion Week in 2023, her latest style reflects a polarizing trend that's both modern and timeless. The cut is a revival of the "box" bob trend we saw gain attention last year, which is marked by details like a chin-length cut, blunt and choppy ends, plenty of volume, and a square, face-framing shape. Here, Rinna's style gives the illusion of this same version, just more polished with its curled ends.
Although stars have cemented the hairstyle's ability to last, experts have also given their approval. "The bob trend is certainly here to stay," hairstylist Devin Toth says. Toth equates the cut to Bettie Page's bob [I put this in our own words and removed his part about "I would call this" because we're naming it the box bob and I don't want to confuse readers!]. It's a blunt one-length, Femme Fatale bob with blunt bangs above the eyebrows." The haircut is ideal for those looking for a dramatic change with easy maintenance. Toth recommends a few tools to nail the curled ends of this style and fully commit to the trend. "The key to her style is round out the bottom of the cut with a small round brush or curling iron," he says. "You need to give it more curvature than normal for not just a little bend." He likes the Y.s.Park Brush Ys60g1 ($48) and the [I fixed the capitalization in hot tools here!] Hot Tools Pro Artist Black Gold Marcel Iron ($31, originally $70) for this.
