Lyle Menendez’s wife, Rebecca Sneed, addressed rumors that he allegedly cheated on her while revealing that they have separated after 21 years of marriage.

“Guys! This is NOT a cheating scandal. Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family,” Rebecca, 55, wrote in a Facebook post shared on November 21 while shutting down the infidelity rumors. “I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years.”

After revealing that she and Lyle, 56, split, Rebecca asked that his followers keep supporting him and his brother, Erik Menendez, as they fight to be released from prison.

“Please keep this page as the abuse survivor support page Lyle wants it to be,” she concluded in the post. “I’ll continue to update you all on the progress of the case because I believe we all have the common goal of seeing the guys walk free! I will never stop fighting for them. Please continue to join us in this fight!”

Rebecca issued that statement hours after the Daily Mail reported that Lyle was having an affair with a 21-year-old British college student. Despite insisting that he was not cheating on her, Rebecca did not confirm nor deny if Lyle is involved in the reported romance.

The former couple first connected when Rebecca started sending Lyle letters following his and Erik’s arrests in 1990. The brothers were arrested and ultimately convicted on two counts of first-degree murder for their involvement in the deaths of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. Rebecca and Lyle got married in 2003, though it’s not clear exactly when they called it quits.

Following their arrests, Erik, 53, and Lyle have insisted that they were victims of their father’s abuse and they committed the murders out of self defense. Erik and Lyle filed a petition to have their conviction overturned after former Menudo member Roy Rosselló came forward to accuse José of sexual abuse in 2023.

The brothers used Roy’s accusations in their petition, as well as a newly-discovered letter that Erik wrote to a relative detailing the alleged abuse. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon later announced in October that his office had decided to recommend that Lyle and Erik be resentenced in light of the findings.

“Today, as we move forward with the resentencing of Erik and Lyle Menendez, who have spent 35 years behind bars after being convicted in 1996 for the killing of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, we must acknowledge the deep pain and suffering experienced by the victims’ families,” the District Attorney said at a press conference at the time. “For decades, they have navigated the grief of their unimaginable loss. We also acknowledge Erik and Lyle’s continuous rehabilitative efforts during their incarceration.”

As the brothers and their supporters eagerly await the resentencing, criminal justice expert Wendy Feldman exclusively told In Touch that their first few days of freedom will be “very difficult” if they are released due to the public interest in their case.
