Man Buys His Girlfriend a Humidifier, Shock Over What They Wake Up To

1 day ago 3

A man who bought a new humidifier for Christmas has shocked internet viewers after revealing what he woke up to find unexpectedly.

Reddit user u/mmm-pistol-whip from Providence, Rhode Island, took to social media on December 28 to show the state of his girlfriend's room after testing out the new humidifier. He purchased it as a Christmas gift, telling Newsweek that "it gets dry" during the New England winters, and his girlfriend, 36, often complains about her skin feeling dry as a result.

She hadn't asked for a humidifier specifically, but the 36-year-old Reddit user took matters into his own hands by surprising her with one. They tested it out overnight, but when they awoke the next morning, they felt as if she had fallen asleep "in an underwater rain forest."

The room was filled with mist, and the moisture was so dense that they could hardly see. The poster said that he used tap water in the humidifier and bravely chose the mist setting. Needless to say, the couple certainly found out just how capable it was.

"I woke up first and checked my phone, but it was still dark out, so I didn't notice at first," user u//mmm-pistol-whip said. "Then my girlfriend woke up, and she asked why it was so foggy inside. I opened my eyes, and everything looked off."

He continued: "I told Alexa to turn on the lights, and as soon as they came on, we were blown away and I snapped a few pictures. The blankets felt like they were covered in dew, the walls were sweating, and the ceiling was dripping. I will admit we both slept well, and her plants have never been happier."

The Reddit user added that there was nothing wrong with the Levoit humidifier he purchased; it was merely user error on his part. Indeed, he wasn't dismayed, and everything in the room was perfectly fine after they opened the door and boosted the heat to dry the air out again.

He has since purchased the same humidifier for his own home, too, and said that he wants "another one for [his] plants." However, this time, he made the smart decision to also buy a water distiller so he doesn't encounter the same extreme problem.

The Social Media Reaction

After posting the images of this unexpected experience on Reddit, he was blown away by the positive response that it generated. In just a matter of days, the post has amassed more than 178,000 views and over 9,200 comments at the time of writing.

The Reddit user told Newsweek: "I shared it because it's ridiculous, and everyone loves harmless chaos. It's impossible to go through all the comments, but they've mostly been Silent Hill references, sympathy for her electronics (they're fine), and asking if my girlfriend is a Lizard."

Among the thousands of comments on the viral Reddit post, many social-media users lauded the poster's hilarious mistake.

One comment reads: "You must feel humiliated."

Another person wrote: "Careful. Monsters might emerge from that mist."

"For her birthday, you can get a dehumidifier," joked a third commenter.

A fourth Reddit user added: "Get her a lighthouse now."
