An eagle-eyed Netflix viewer had his wife in hysterics after highlighting a glaring error in the new Christmas action thriller Carry On.
The film, which stars Taron Egerton as an airline security guard facing a passenger (Jason Bateman) who is blackmailing him to smuggle a deadly package onto a plane on Christmas Eve, has garnered positive reviews from critics and fans alike since debuting on Netflix earlier this month.
Victoria and Chris, who live in Florida, are among those who give Carry On the thumbs-up.
"We enjoyed the movie," Victoria, who asked that her surname be omitted, told Newsweek. "It reminded me of a '90s action film, over the top in parts but still very enjoyable. The mistake didn't change our opinion."
She credits Chris with spotting the blooper. He's got an eye for detail when it comes to continuity errors. "I can tell even at home if the slightest thing has been moved," he told Newsweek. "So when watching a movie, I don't look for these things. They just stand out to me."
While it was Chris who spotted the error, the mistake might have gone unnoticed to many had Victoria, under the TikTok handle @floridafitbrit, not shared footage of her husband highlighting the blunder.
The error involved a baby, or rather two decidedly different babies playing the same baby. As Chris can be heard explaining in the TikTok video, in one scene a mom boarding the pivotal plane in Carry On goes through security with a baby sporting a full head of brown hair.
However, when she is spotted boarding the plane later on, her baby has no hair at all.
"Once I saw it, I immediately sat up and had to show my wife," Chris said. That was when she started filming the video. "It was such a blatant mistake I couldn't believe it made it into the film." Newsweek has contacted Netflix for comment.
Though Chris spotted the error, Victoria said she played a role in helping him find it.
"We have kids, so I was pointing out how adorable the poor kid on the doomed flight was," she said, "then it wasn't the same kid."
Though Chris is keen to stress that the mistake didn't take away from his enjoyment of the film, he described it as "a facepalm moment."
"I understand maybe they can't use the same child, but they could have made it less obvious," he said. "I was just baffled that this was a prime movie on Netflix with a great cast, and they made a mistake as silly as this."
Chris remained confused. "The scene of them walking on with the bald baby, it wasn't necessary. So why even show it or keep the scene in the movie? I don't get it," he said.
Victoria and Chris aren't the first people to go viral after highlighting a mistake in a film. One Matrix fan went viral after sharing a glaring mistake they had previously failed to spot, and a film buff's video detailing the many mistakes fans failed to notice in classic films, such as Pretty Woman, received millions of views.
Meanwhile, one Netflix user went viral with a clip that suggested many people had been using the platform in the wrong way all this time.
