A husband says he feels like it's "only a matter of time" before his wife will cheat on him as she chooses not to wear her wedding ring when going out with friends.
The 39-year-old man turned to Reddit this week to appeal for online verdicts after sharing his concerns about his wife's increasingly dismissive attitude towards their 10-year relationship.
'Accidentally got pregnant'
Original poster (OP) BertJinix revealed a marriage that began with challenges. He described how an unplanned pregnancy led to their decision to marry.
"We accidentally got pregnant and decided to stick together and make it work," the OP wrote.
He described himself as a, "Responsible, stable aka boring dude", who has remained supportive, while his 37-year-old wife continues to enjoy nights out with friends, often getting drunk.
Adding to his unease is her honesty about the attention she receives while out.
"She tells me how much attention she gets from other guys... and how she doesn't have to pay for a single drink," he explained.
He admitted he fears that if infidelity hasn't already occurred, it is only a matter of time.
'Wasted my youth'
In a particularly painful moment, his wife apparently came home intoxicated and told him, "I've wasted my youth on you," comparing him to the younger men she had flirted with earlier that night.
Despite his efforts to communicate and address the growing emotional distance, he said his wife dismisses his concerns and calls him a "crybaby" if he expresses his feelings.
The 400 comments submitted in response to the Reddit post were swift and unanimous in their support for the husband's decision to make a change.
An individual advised, "Dude, it's time to leave. I think you know this too. It's wayyyyyy too far gone.
"If you really make good money, divorce ASAP before you end up having more assets and more money for her to take."
Another supporter, reflecting on a similar experience, wrote, "Divorce after a long marriage that wasn't working was one of the best changes in my life.
"Do it now, do it amicably, and do your best to not make the child feel at fault and help THEM through this."
According to Marriage.com, indicators of a failing relationship include emotional detachment, lack of intimacy and dismissive behavior—all of which were highlighted in the OP's story.
The platform advises couples in such situations to either seek professional counseling or consider whether the relationship can realistically be salvaged.
An article from Newsweek raised the importance of fostering open dialogue and respect in long-term partnerships.
However, the piece also acknowledged that when fundamental needs are persistently unmet, it may be healthier for both parties to part ways amicably.
'Since day one'
As the thread gained traction, users called for the OP to prioritize his well-being and that of his child. While some suggested therapy as a potential solution, the consensus leaned heavily toward separation.
In the thread, the husband thanked fellow Redditors and said he was reading every comment.
"I'm happy just to see some validation for what I already know," he continued.
"I think divorce is the obvious solution, but it's just so hard to pull the trigger. We've been, 'Staying together for the kids,' since day one."
