Many players in the Marvel Rivals community are growing tired of one particular aspect of the game, an aspect they’re even claiming needs to “be removed” right away.
Although Marvel Rivals has quickly shot up the charts as one of the most popular hero shooters on the market, often jostling for the top spot with Overwatch 2, the game certainly isn’t without its flaws.
We’ve seen all manner of bugs since the December 6, 2024 release, devs are still fighting to fend off cheaters, and of course, there’s the usual balance quirks too, with players arguing some heroes are far more powerful than others.
Beyond that, however, many in the community have gripes with various parts of the game’s core experience, and now, they’re turning their attention to something outside of the game entirely: The boot-up sequence.

If you disconnect in Marvel Rivals, you might not get back in before it’s too late.
Marvel Rivals players furious over game’s lengthy boot-up process
When you start up Marvel Rivals on PC, it takes quite some time to actually get into the game. Let’s break it down quickly. You first have to sit through the Marvel Games intro animation, then comes the NetEase Games logo, another logo for Unreal Engine 5, all before a lengthy health risk warning screen.
From there you’re on the homepage, but you’re required to log in, which can take a fair while, and even after all of that, there’s still a seasonal intro cutscene that has to be skipped before you’re finally able to play the game. It’s a lot, to say the least.
Now, players are finally reaching their breaking point over this particular part of the experience, especially given how it can impact unexpected crashes. For instance, if your game crashes midway through a match, you have to get through all of the above before you can jump back in.
As one member of the community put it in a post on Reddit, “How are players reasonably expected to reconnect to a match after a crash if it takes this long just to get to the main menu?”
“A friend of mine says ‘It takes longer to boot Rivals than to boot my computer and get to Steam.,’” one player joked in response.
Most of the replies were in agreement, with others adamant the devs “need a patch” that lets everyone skip each part of the boot-up sequence. “Let us play the f***ing game,” they said. “Stop making us sit through an entire Marvel movie.”
Meanwhile, some were a bit more scathing, arguing all the intro logos and animations should be “completely removed or skippable.”
As we’ve seen since the game’s launch, devs are hearing community feedback loud and clear and even pivoting on very short notice when fans aren’t happy with a particular choice. Should there be enough of a demand in this instance, perhaps it’s only a matter of time until the boot-up sequence is expedited somewhat. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
