Magic: The Gathering is gearing up to return to a beloved setting with the impending launch of Tarkir: Dragonstorm. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming set including its release date, range of products, and more.
2025 is a big year for Magic: The Gathering if you’re familiar with the TCG’s rapid release schedule. We’ve already been treated to a Special Set in the form of Innistrad Remastered and we’re currently in the midst of the standard-legal Aetherdrift.
On the horizon, players have major crossovers with Final Fantasy and the recently confirmed Avatar: The Last Airbender set to look forward to. Before we get to those, however, long-time MTG fans have something catered just for them.
MTG will return to a fan-favorite plane for the highly-anticipated release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm. Thanks to some reveals at MagicCon 2025, we’ve got all the details you need to know about the set.

Prepare to face down some formidable foes in MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm.
MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm release date
Tarkir: Dragonstorm is next up in the MTG release schedule and will launch on April 11, 2025. The standard-legal set will conclude the titular Dragonstorm arc and we’ll go over what that means below.
MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm set details
Since Bloomburrow, the denizens of multiple Planes have been dealing with fierce dragons invading their realms via the Omenpaths. These dragons spawn from the aptly named Dragonstorms; tempests of chaotic magic originating on the plane of Tarkir.
The chaos in Tarkir has led to a resurgence of the Plane’s five Clans rising up to deal with the threat. As the clans fight against the powerful new foes emerging from the Dragonstorms, inquisitive Planeswalkers work to discern the origin of the calamity.
In early promotional material for MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm, there has been a particular emphasis placed on the five Clans of Tarkir. Those Clans are Abzan, Jeskai, Sultai, Mardu, and Temur which players will recognize as shorthand for some of MTG’s three-color combos.
Expect synergies between these three-color combos to express themselves heavily on the tabletop for this set.
MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm products
Wizards of the Coast has already shown off the full range of products launching with MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm. As previously mentioned, these tie in heavily to the five Clans of Tarkir.
So much so that we’re getting our first suite of five multiplayer precons since 2023.
MTG Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander decks

The five Commander decks for Tarkir: Dragonstorm each zero in on one of the five Clans of Tarkir. As such, each one serves as a showcase of the playstyles and identities that these color combos are known for.
Abzan Armor (White-Black-Green) is led by Felothar the steadfast and the deck relies on stacking your board with Creatures that have high Toughness to defend your Life total. Once all the pieces are in place, you can utilize tools that switch your Toughness and Power values for big swings.
Jeskai Striker (Blue-Red-White) sees Narset, Jeskai Waymaster in the Command Zone. The aim of the game with this deck is to fire off as many spells as possible and use Narset’s ability to refresh your hand for another assault.
Sultai Arisen (Black-Green-Blue) hones in on the time-honored Green-Black strategy of self-targeted milling to load up your own graveyard. The deck will benefit from having a stacked Graveyard to convert into mana while your Commander Teval, The Balanced Scale is able to revive Creatures alongside some Zombie Druid tokens.
Mardu Surge (Red-White-Black) focuses on an aggro style of play that involves flooding your board with expendable attacker tokens via your Commander Zurgo Stormrender. When they’ve outlived their usefulness, you can sacrifice these tokes to buff your key players.
Finally, Temur Roar (Green-Blue-Red) lives in concert with the Dragons of Tarkir. Ureni of the Unwritten is this deck’s Commander and her strategy is to load up on Mana early in order to summon formidable Dragons and buff their stats to horrific proportions.
