The New York Knicks have all the tools necessary to be very active ahead of the upcoming NBA trade deadline. After a massive offseason where the team added Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, New York could still want to bring in more talent.
The Knicks are looking for a championship and the front office seemingly wants to stop at nothing to make it happen. Despite them being one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season, New York still has some pieces to work with on the trade block.
In this new trade scenario, New York lands one of the more highly-coveted names on the trade market. The deal would be between the Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers, landing veteran center Robert Williams III in New York.
Using the Spotrac trade machine, here is what a deal could look like between the two sides.
Knicks receive: Robert Williams III
Trail Blazers receive: Mitchell Robinson, Miles McBride, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick
Landing Williams III could serve the Knicks well as their frontcourt continues to be the weakest link on the team. The biggest knock against Williams III has been his health but when on the floor, he is among one of the better energy players that the NBA has to offer.
Portland values Williams III very highly but due to their large center logjam, they could look to move him. The Trail Blazers would essentially be swapping Williams III for Robinson but landing a nice player in McBride as well.
New York would also part with multiple second-round draft picks in this deal, helping Portland land some extra potential trade assets for down the line.
Robinson has yet to play this season for the Knicks due to injury recovery but he has been in trade discussions for years. New York has been looking to upgrade from him and Williams III could be the player to make it happen.
Williams III could bring strong rebounding to the table, helping the Knicks deal with one of their issues. This deal could make sense for both sides and if Williams III can stay healthy, New York could land a steal of a player.
