Maya Jama and Joel Dommett reveal what they really thought of Macy Gray's Masked Singer rage

Macy Gray left The Masked Singer judges speechless on Saturday when she stormed off set wearing a Yorkshire pudding costume after finding out she'd been eliminated as Toad in the Hole

Maya Jama has given her take on Macy Gray's bizarre behaviour on The Masked Singer on Saturday.

The I Try star, 57, left viewers gobsmacked when she found out she'd been eliminated as Toad in the Hole - wearing a Yorkshire pudding costume.

When Macy found out her fate, she flounced off stage, swerving the customary reveal, with Maya, 30, posting the curious clip on her Instagram page. Captioning the video as the singer stomps past dumbstruck, host, Joel Dommett on stage, Maya teased: "Me at any minor inconvenience"'. The Love Island star can then be seen open-mouthed, telling fellow judge, Jonathan Ross: "Toad's off!" as Macy makes her exit.

Macy sent fans into a frenzy after she 'threw a strop' on the smash-hit show, with producers reportedly spending nearly an hour convincing the singer to return for her unmasking and final performance.

When host Joel announced that Toad in the Hole was the third celebrity to be going home, the I've Committed Murder star didn't stay around for the customary reveal and instead walked off set. A source who was at the show recording told The Sun that the singer was "totally blindsided", revealing: "When Macy stormed off stage everyone was frozen in shock but as soon as she reached backstage, crew removed her mask so they could talk her down," the insider claimed.

"Macy was almost shellshocked to start with and was basically gutted to be out so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version - when obviously she did brilliantly - so was totally blindsided. It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out."

Giving his take on things, Joel told Paddy McGuinness on his BBC Radio 2 show that Macy shouldn't take things to heart. Opening up about the bonkers competition, he said: “It’s sort of a singing show but it’s also sort of a guessing show – so it kind of doesn’t really sit in either camp.

“And also if you’re a great singer and you make it through then that’s absolutely wonderful, but sometimes, like the case with Macy Gray, she has such a recognisable voice and she’s a legend so you immediately know who it is. So it’s kind of one of those where we all know who it is, she might as well go and then the other person can go through as we don’t quite know who they are. So the guessing game continues.”

Joel added to Paddy: “The funny thing is, I think it’s a win win scenario on that game – whether you go through to the final it’s a win as you’re winning it. But also if you go home early it’s a win because you get to go early and you get the same money.”

Macy also caused chaos on the Australian version of the programme three years ago. Dressed up as 'Atlantis', Macy was eliminated again, but reportedly refused to leave the stage.

One of the Aussie show's judges, Dave 'Hughesy' Hughes, said when the singer was unmasked, she 'refused to leave' despite being told it was time to take off her mask and say goodbye.

He told 2Day FM's Morning Crew: "Macy Gray had such passion for The Masked Singer that when she was told that she had to leave the show, which you saw last night, she refused to leave the show. She said: 'No, I'm continuing in the show,' and there had to be a discussion which went for quite a while as to: 'No, you have to leave.' She said: 'No, I'm not leaving.'"

Fellow anchor Erin Molan speculated that the singer wanted to stay on the show longer to secure a bigger payday. "I don't know the contractual situation…" Hughesy responded, adding that Macy took a lot of convincing before she agreed to take her mask off and leave.
