Nearly 50 people in nearly a dozen states have fallen ill, including one death, as the result of an E. coli outbreak tied to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday.

The agency is working with McDonald's to probe which ingredients are behind the disease's spread, according to the CDC. In the meantime, the largest fast food in the world is temporarily stopping making food with onions and quarter pound beef patties in multiple states, the CDC said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
