Insiders have claimed that the Royal Family extended their full support to Meghan Markle upon her marriage to Prince Harry, but she declined due to a lack of "trust".
The royals are said to have gone out of their way to assist the Duchess in adapting to Royal life, as detailed in a new biography of King Charles III by Royal author Robert Hardman, titled 'Charles III'.
A Palace staffer from the time Meghan joined the Royal scene shared: "It was Clive [now Sir Clive Alderton, private secretary to the King] who said that if we could get this right for Harry, we'd be creating a blueprint for future younger sons for generations."
"We seconded people from Clarence House, very expert people, to help them, but the Duchess wouldn't trust them. Those two were offered considerable resource, and then later said that they had been offered no help. And that was completely wrong."
Despite numerous contentious statements made by the couple against the Royal family, the 75 year old monarch is reportedly open to reconciliation. When the 40 year old Prince visited in May, he was even offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace but opted for a hotel due to security reasons, according to a comment from the King's staffer, who added: "I'm not sure you could get anywhere more secure than the Palace.", reports the Mirror.
Recent reports also disclosed Prince Harry's angry reaction upon being informed that Meghan was not permitted at Balmoral on the day the Queen passed away.
During a pivotal moment in 2022, Prince Harry faced a family crisis. As he prepared to rush from London to Scotland to join his grandmother, the Queen, in her final hours in September 2022, tensions arose regarding Meghan's presence.
It was during this time, reported in his explosive memoir 'Spare', that Prince Charles, his father, firmly stated that though Harry was welcome at Balmoral, his wife Meghan was not. Recalling the uncomfortable conversation, Harry wrote: "He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn't want... her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn't having it."
The Duke of Sussex described his staunch defence of Meghan during the call, citing: "Don't ever speak about my wife that way...He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn't want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn't coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn't. Then that's all you needed to say."
Tragically, when the Queen died peacefully at 15:10 on September 8, among her relatives, only Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne got the chance to be with her.
Buckingham Palace revealed at 12.50pm that Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie had begun their journey to Scotland. Unfortunately, they didn't make it in time.
Touching down at 3:50pm, a mere 40 minutes after her passing, they drove to Balmoral with William behind the wheel, arriving at 5.06pm. In the meantime, Prince Harry departed Luton airport on a private jet around 5.30pm.
He was still airborne when the announcement of the queen's death was made at 6.30pm.
