Montel Williams has defended himself and Vice President Kamala Harris in the face of salacious rumors.
The 68-year-old took to social media to dispel the suggestion that an explicit film of him and Harris, his former girlfriend, exists. A user under the account @MattWallace888 on X first shared the idea on Monday (Oct 28).
“Wow, I was just informed by my friend, who is the CEO of a large tech company, that there is allegedly a sex tape being shopped around involving Kamala Harris and Montel Williams,” he proclaimed. “This could break the internet and seriously damage the Harris campaign with just 8 days until the election.”
Once he became aware of the gossip, Williams made clear that no such video exists.
“Wow, I hear a blogger I’ve never heard of got millions of views claiming someone is ‘shopping’ a sex tape of me [rolling eyes emoji] that will ‘break the internet,'” responded the former talk show host. “Let’s ‘break the internet’ w/ truth – there is no tape. @KamalaHQ ’s surge clearly has some people worried.”
After Williams’ response, the originator shared an update to his followers alerting them that “the allegations are false.”
“Thanks for clarifying Montel,” he posted.
“@KamalaHarris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what?” Williams explained in 2019 during Harris’ first Presidential campaign after throwback photos of the two began to circulate, per Marie Claire. “I have great respect for Sen. Harris. I have to wonder if the same stories about her dating history would have been written if she were a male candidate?”
Per The Wrap, Williams officially endorsed Harris in July 2024 by retweeting Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s message of support.
