This Sunday, Manchester will stop the music world with the MTV Europe Music Awards 2024 (MTV EMAs) ceremony, where the most media-savvy exponents of music will gather in the English city.
The musical lineup for the 2024 MTV EMAs will be headlined by Shawn Mendes, Raye, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims and The Warning, a trio of Mexican sisters who have gained popularity on the international rock scene.
In addition, artists such as the Pet Shop Boys, K-pop group Le Sserafim, Mexican regional music singer Peso Pluma, and South African artist Tyla will also perform.
For this edition, Taylor Swift is the most nominated artist, being considered in seven categories, followed by Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter with five nominations each.
Do the MTV EMAs winners get anything other than the award?
Despite the lavish nature of this awards ceremony, artists do not usually receive direct monetary prizes; the recognition is based on the prestige and visibility it gives them.
Winning or even being nominated can increase their influence in the industry, their commercial value and interest in their tours and future projects.
In addition, the event is an international exhibition platform that can result in long-term business and collaboration opportunities.
So the winners only take home the trophy that recognises them as the best in the categories they win.
