Retired 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick has hinted at a possible involvement in the 2025 Indy 500. While the specifics remain vague, it's clear Harvick has no intentions of trading his retired NASCAR seat for an IndyCar one. Instead, the seasoned racer might be setting his sights on a different role, potentially as part of the broadcasting crew that will cover the prestigious event.
Having transitioned from NASCAR to broadcasting, Harvick's career continues to evolve. Speaking about the possibility of an appearance at the Indy 500 in 2025 on the Harvick Happy Hour podcast, he explained:
"When you look at the Indy 500 and everything that comes with the Indy 500, that is an experience from the open wheel side of that, that hopefully I get to experience this year.
"I don't have anything to do that weekend, so I'd love to experience what heaven might be like."
This potential expansion into Indy 500 broadcasting is intertwined with FOX's new role as the event's broadcaster starting in 2025, following a significant media rights acquisition.
Eric Shanks, CEO and Executive Producer of FOX Sports, commented on the new role:
"Adding the iconic Indianapolis 500 and delivering the entire NTT IndyCar Series to the FOX Sports roster fits perfectly within our model of teaming with sports' largest events and best-in-class brands.
"We're honored to be the new broadcast home to "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," an incredibly special event to everyone at FOX Sports."
Kevin Harvick's background as a celebrated NASCAR driver and his recent shift to television make him a compelling candidate for the broadcasting team. Harvick's insight and experience in motorsport would bring added depth and knowledge to coverage, much like Jimmie Johnson's engagement with NBC for the 2024 Indy 500 broadcast.
Scheduled for May 25, 2025, the 109th Running of the Indy 500 marks a monumental occasion not just for IndyCar, but also for its new broadcaster, FOX.
This comes after Harvick announced his new partnership with Rackley W.A.R.'s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series squad. He commented on the partnership, as previously reported by Newsweek Sports:
"Rackley W.A.R. has a solid and proven track record that will drastically improve the learning curve for Keelan and I in the Super and Pro Late Models," Kevin Harvick said.
"In return, I hope that my years of owning and operating a championship winning truck program will help shorten Dawson's learning curve in his rookie truck season and positively impact their truck program."
