Ne-Yo Gets Candid About Decision To Be Polyamorous
On November 14, ‘The Lemon Drop Show’ released a new episode featuring an exclusive sitdown with Ne-Yo via YouTube. About 25 minutes into the episode, Ne-Yo explained that his decision to be polyamorous was prompted by a realization that he was not living his “truth” for a “very, very long time.”
“…And I realized that everything is not for everybody,” he said. “…Society tells you that you’re supposed to be with one person. You get married, and y’all supposed to be together forever… I am not s******g on marriage. I’m not s******g on anyone who has figured out how to make that thing work for them. Again, everything’s not for everybody. Monogamy is for you. It’s not for me.”
Ne-Yo explained that his realization is like a “weight lifted off” his shoulders.
“I realized I spent so much time lying and trying to be somebody I wasn’t for the sake of somebody else,” he continued. “[It was] complete and utter time wasted when I could’ve just been exactly who I am, said exactly what I want, exactly how I’m rocking, exactly how I’m not, and then waited for those people to gravitate to me because that’s my reality now… I don’t have to lie anymore, and I’ll be damned if I ever go back to that person that needed to lie for the appeasement of somebody else. I’m not that no more.”
Before concluding, Ne-Yo shared that living in his truth has allowed all of the relationships in his life to become better. This also includes his relationship with his ex-wife Crystal Renay.
“We’re actually at the place where we can call each other ‘friend’ again because now it’s, ‘This is who I am. Love it or leave it alone.'” he said.
Social Media Weighs In
Social media users reacted to Ne-Yo’s stance in the comment section of the show’s post on Instagram.

While Instagram user @thedezignher added, “I wish he discovered this prior to the women who held him down, but glad he is living in his truth now and ppl know what it is. It’s too many ppl out here lying and ruining other people bc of it.”
