Nick Jonas might not have seen this reaction coming when he logged onto X (formerly Twitter). But one post, one GIF, and one Elon Musk interaction later — his fans were rattled.
On Tuesday, December 17, the 32-year-old singer found himself in hot water with fans after replying to a Musk post. The SpaceX billionaire, 53, had shared a Jonas Brothers GIF with the caption, "My, how the tables have turned!" (Musk posted the GIF to celebrate Tesla's financial success, which he claimed had soared 100% since Donald Trump's election victory.)
Jonas' response? A callback to the band's hit "Year 3000" with the line: "Take us to the Year 3000." He also included a photo of the Tesla tycoon pointing his finger with a grin on his face.
After the post hit social media, it didn't take long for reactions to flood in — and the comments weren't exactly "Burnin' Up" with love, interpreting the award-winning artist's response as support of Musk.
"Delete this," one person demanded.
"He's gonna take us 3000 years into the past. Just take a look at the people he supports. Be better, Nick. Don't give attention to a**holes who take advantage of people," remarked another user.
Others recalled their own fandom for the "S.O.S." hitmaker.
"Nick stop this, we all prayed for you in social studies class when you announced your diabetes in the middle of the day," another user pleaded.
But, of course, not everyone was upset.
"Welcome aboard, Nick!" one user cheered.
"You can think Elon has good ideas and is a visionary AND still disagree with him sometimes. Same with Trump. They both used to be Democrats. Maybe we should all collectively chill and stop being so polarizing 🧘♀️," another wrote.
"Woooooo! The country is healing," another exclaimed.
And, in classic internet fashion, someone added, "OH CRY ME A RIVER! He can like whoever the hell he wants."
Jonas has yet to address the backlash, but in the meantime, he's been focusing on family life.
Earlier this month, he and wife Priyanka Chopra — who share 2-year-old daughter Malti Marie — embraced the holiday spirit with a trip to New York City. The 42-year-old Love Again actress shared glimpses of the family getaway on Instagram, including Malti exploring Christmas trees, cuddling with her mom, and more. Chopra called it a "quick lil magic moment" in her Saturday, December 7 post.
