In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Emmy winner Niecy Nash-Betts revealed her admiration for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who made his acting debut on FX's horror drama Grotesquerie. The veteran actress, known for her dynamic performances, had nothing but praise for her co-star, calling him eager and determined in his new venture.
"I love Travis. We just got off the phone together," Nash-Betts shared, highlighting their close relationship. She noted Kelce's enthusiasm for acting, comparing his fresh excitement to her early days in the industry. "He shows up with an eagerness that reminds you of when you were starting out. He's excited to dive into these scenes and take on the challenge."
A peek behind the scenes
In Grotesquerie, Kelce plays Eddie Laclan, an orderly at a small-town hospital. Nash-Betts stars as Detective Lois Tryon, a hard-drinking investigator whose husband is a patient at the same hospital. Kelce's portrayal of a complex character has drawn attention, showcasing his ability to tackle a role outside of his football career.
Nash-Betts also expressed admiration for Kelce's family, particularly his mother, Donna. "I love his family. His mom, Mama Kelce, is my girl. I'm also a fan of his podcast with his brother Jason," she said, referencing the popular New Heights podcast the Kelce brothers host.
From the field to the screen
While Nash-Betts has enjoyed watching Kelce transition into acting, she's equally thrilled to see him dominate on the football field. "I've had the opportunity to visit him on his job too and watch him play for the [Kansas City] Chiefs. I just think he's lovely," she gushed.
As Kelce balances his NFL career with his acting and media ventures, fans eagerly await more from the versatile athlete. From hosting Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? to his on-screen debut in Grotesquerie, Kelce is proving he's more than just a football star.
With Season 1 of Grotesquerie drawing to a close, viewers are hopeful for a renewal and for more of Kelce's growing presence in Hollywood.
