Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev have settled their divorce and dropped their restraining orders against one another just under three months after the Dancing With the Stars pro was arrested following a reported domestic violence incident.
After Nikki, 40, filed for divorce from Artem, 42, in September, requesting full custody of their 4-year-old son, Matteo, and Artem asked for joint custody and spousal support, the former couple has agreed to drop their orders of protection as they’ve come to an agreement in their divorce.
“Nikki and Artem have settled their divorce and will not be going to court,” Nikki’s rep told Us Weekly on November 20. “Both parties decided to drop the domestic violence restraining orders against each other in an effort to move on with their lives and effectively coparent their son.”
“Nikki’s number one priority has always been her son and privacy on the matter. She is thankful for all of the love and support she has received during this difficult time,” the rep concluded.
As DWTS fans will recall, Artem was arrested for domestic battery in August and booked on a felony domestic violence charge. However, after a judge’s review, charges against him were dropped.
“I am incredibly relieved and grateful that the domestic violence charges against me have been dropped,” he said on Instagram at the time. “This has been an extremely difficult time for me. I am thankful that the truth has prevailed.”
Still, Nikki insisted that her then-estranged spouse had been violent with her, saying he “tackled me multiple times and pinned me to the ground while our child was present” as she filed and was granted a restraining order against him as he did the same against her.
Before the finalization of their divorce, Artem accused Nikki of negatively affecting his earnings with her “false” claims of abuse.
“It is not true that I have not been able to find other work as a dancer. I normally start jobs in November and it goes for 20 weekends. After the mug shot and the arrest based on her false allegations, I was taken off the website faculty list resulting in loss of over $100k in income,” Artem alleged, according to court documents filed in Napa County on October 31 and obtained by the Daily Mail.
“I also lost the social media promotion revenue, which she continues to benefit from as she was more worried about her career when she lied to the police, than mine,” he added. “She is the one with the temper. I try to stay quiet and avoid it. She yells, and on 8/29/24 was yelling, pursuing me, and was the one who attacked me. It is further a lie that I was growing increasingly angry, snapping at her, and yelling. I was not violent with her and did not violently grab or yell at her.”
Also in his court documents against Nikki, Artem requested Nikki pay his rent since he was “kicked out” of their home, as well as some or all of his attorneys’ fees.
