Olivia Rodrigo Was Interrogated and Mistaken for a Criminal at Border Control

Olivia Rodrigo got in “trouble with the law for the first time” while on her Guts world tour!

“We were going from Canada to, like, Portland or something,” she recalled the story while appearing on Jimmy Fallon‘s Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show. “We were at border control, I give them my passport, and they’re like, ‘OK, whatever.’ And they knock on the door [of the tour bus] and they’re like, ‘We need Olivia.’”

At first, the 21-year-old pop star thought that the officer wanted an autograph for a family member — until she was taken into an interrogation room where there was a “big cop” with a “gun.”

“It’s 3:00 a.m. and I’m delirious,” she continued. “He’s like, ‘Have you ever been arrested?’ I’m, like, ’No, I haven’t been arrested.’ He’s like, ‘Are you sure?’ I’m like gaslighting [myself]. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, maybe I was, like, arrested and I didn’t know it.’”

The officer then warned her she could go to jail for lying to a federal agent, frightening the Guts singer. “I’m freaking out. I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna be let in America. I’m so scared, I’m, like, having a panic attack,” she continued.

However, a half an hour later goes by until the officer finally asked her to verify her name again.

“And I go, ‘Olivia Rodrigo. R-O-D-R-I-G-O.’ And he’s like ‘Oh, there’s a girl who looks just like you that’s your same age that’s been arrested multiple times, and her name is Olivia Rodriguez,’” she explained, before the crowd erupted in laughter. “Jimmy, I was pissed. Like, you didn’t look at the name?” she exclaimed.

This isn’t the first time there’s been some confusion with the name Olivia Rodriguez! Earlier this year, a TikTok went viral after a user rated the singer-songwriter’s cookie partnership with Crumbl. In the clip, he says: “Olivia Rodriguez, the little Mexican girl that be crying — zero out of 10.”

The meme went so viral, it even led to Olivia remaking it on her own TikTok page in March 2024. She captioned the post, “idk i think its rlly good.”
