Olympian Shaun White and actress Nina Dobrev are officially engaged after a stunning proposal in New York City that left Dobrev momentarily speechless.
The couple, who have been together since 2019, shared the exciting news in separate social media posts, with White announcing, "She said YES," and Dobrev captioning the photos, "RIP boyfriend, hello fianc?."
Nina Dobrev was shocked by White's proposal
According to Vogue, the three-time Olympic gold medalist, 36, surprised The Vampire Diaries star, 34, with a 5-carat diamond ring during an intimate setup at Manhattan's Golden Swan restaurant.
White orchestrated the moment with meticulous detail, decorating the scene with an archway of white roses and going to great lengths to keep the proposal a complete surprise.
To catch Dobrev off guard, White devised a clever ruse involving an invitation.
His publicist sent Dobrev a faux invite to an exclusive CFDA/Vogue dinner hosted by Anna Wintour.
"He made the invite look so legitimate,"Dobrev told Vogue, admitting she didn't suspect a thing.
When she arrived, however, she was met with White and a photographer instead of a room full of fashion insiders.
"He said all the right things," she recalled of the unforgettable moment.
But Dobrev's initial response was a bit unexpected.
"No," she replied-followed by several more emphatic "no's."
It wasn't rejection, though, but rather shock.
"I went into shock,"Dobrev explained, describing how she simply froze and stared at White, overcome with disbelief.
White revealed that he had hidden the engagement ring in several places around their home in the lead-up to the big night, tucking it away in spots he was confident Dobrev wouldn't check, like his sock drawer and the back of a tool shed.
"I was like, She's not coming out here,"White joked.
Dobrev and White's relationship has been a blend of lighthearted moments and strong support for each other.
The couple met at an event in 2019 and became Instagram official during the pandemic, when Dobrev posted photos of herself giving White a quarantine haircut.
White, who retired from competitive snowboarding after the 2022 Winter Olympics, hinted earlier this year at a potential engagement, telling PEOPLE that while they were in no rush, "You never know. We'll see what happens."
