Netflix subscribers need not search elsewhere for their Halloween horror thrills.
As the ghastliest day of the year descends upon us, cinephiles will be sifting through their library to find eerie selections to spook themselves this weekend.
Amidst a trove of classic horrors offering goosebumps of nostalgia, one cult hit from 2014 might just be the ideal finale to a marathon of monstrous flicks.
Although a decade has passed since its release, It Follows remains as unsettling and jarringly sinister as when it first chilled audiences - a fact underscored by the buzz over the recently announced sequel.
Starring the acclaimed Maika Monroe from Longlegs, the film is currently available for streaming on Netflix, reports the Mirror.
Helmed by director David Robert Mitchell, this atypical supernatural tale follows university student Jay Height, portrayed by Monroe, who finds herself stalked by an enigmatic entity following a sexual encounter with her boyfriend Hugh (played by Jake Weary).
Boasting a series of foreboding scenes and spine-tingling jolts, It Follows also earned applause for its distinctly unnerving perspective on sexuality and identity, maintaining its status as a standout horror movie of recent times.
Earlier in the year, IGN placed it prominently on their countdown of the 31 Best Modern Horror Movies, commenting: "Attach any subtext you want - the film can be read very flexibly and plays with familiar slasher tropes - but It Follows is also deeply frightening.
"If you've ever noticed someone just out of the corner of your eye and thought 'are they following me? ' then this is the film for you. Or not."
Adam Fleet, writing for The Guardian, hailed the movie: "The best horror films of the 21st century? You can't go past It Follows.
"It Follows is one of the best and most original horror movies of the 21st century so far," and noted its unique position in the genre: "Sharing common ground with the genre greats while still contributing plenty of its own."
Describing the film's atmosphere, he remarked, "It's tense, suspenseful and unsettling, so it makes for the perfect spooky season viewing."
BBC Radio 1's Ali Plumb ranked it highly among recent horror flicks, commenting, "Think about this idea too much and it can really unsettle you.
"I confess when I first watched the film, I was expecting more scares, more jumps, more shocks, but this isn't that sort of movie, for the most part. It's a thinker, a chiller, a messed-up film that wants to mess you up."

A passionate fan on Reddit sparked a discussion by asking, "Is It Follows one of the greatest horror films of all time?"
The fan elaborated on the film's chilling aspects: "Came out in 2014, the 'monster' is easily one of the scariest and most original in the last decade. The premise is equally terrifying. No matter where you go, the monster can follow you."
They added a haunting detail about the relentless nature of the film's antagonist: "There's no planning an escape cause it could just walk into a plane and follow you to anywhere you think you're a few hours ahead of it."
