When it launched in 2023, the OnePlus Open, based on Oppo’s Find N3, was already one of the most impressive devices in terms of being super thin, but it’s now been confirmed that the upcoming sequel will be setting a new record.
In a post on Weibo, Pete Lau confirmed that the Oppo Find N5 will be “the world’s thinnest folding flagship,” sharing an image of the device next to a pencil to show how thin it is. The Find N5 is surely opened up in this image, but being that thin opened up should make for a book-style foldable that’s remarkably thin while closed.
The current record holder is Honor’s Magic V3 at 9.2mm while closed and 4.4mm while open.
The Oppo Find N5 is expected to be a foundation for the OnePlus Open 2, as the two foldables will very likely share the same hardware in most areas. As such, the Open 2 looks like an enticing option for the US foldable market, where Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 didn’t make much of an impact on hardware this year, and as Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold has taken the current Open’s crown.
It’s also rather impressive that the OnePlus Open 2 / Oppo Find N5 could be so thin considering that the battery is expected to get considerably bigger, up to around 6,000 mAh.
The teaser goes on to mention that more details around Find N5 will be coming in February, with any announcements from OnePlus likely to follow not very long afterward.
