Open Channel: What Does Star Wars’ New Saga Look Like to You?

2 weeks ago 5

Being into Star Wars has never been easy, but it’s been especially weird the last few years. As fans have found themselves constantly torn apart by troublemakers from within (and out of) the community, Lucasfilm has repeatedly struggled to get any solid footing behind anything without Dave Filoni’s direct involvement. It’s especially damaging on the film side of things, which recently added a new trio of films from former X-Men scribe Simon Kinberg to its ever-growing pile.

After Rise of Skywalker closed out the Skywalker Saga in 2019, you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking Disney wanted the air to clear before pushing the timeline forward with new movies. In 2020, the post-Rise movie landscape appeared to start taking shape with Patty Jenkins’ unlucky Rogue Squadron, and unknown films from J.D. Dillard and Taika Waititi. But as the years have gone on, projects have either quietly gone away, we’re told they still exist, or they’ve had their progress stopped in some capacity. Things are equally unclear on the TV side of things: with The Acolyte a one-and-done and Din Djarin and Grogu taking time in the movie zone, we’ve only got Skeleton Crew in December, Andor’s final season in April, and another season of Ahsoka whenever the stars align.

Eventually, a new Star Wars saga will happen, even if Disney has to kidnap George Lucas and hold him hostage until he writes a script treatment. But until said saga materializes, we want to know what you would want from a new trilogy of movies. Would you declare the Sequel Trilogy non-canon, continue on despite it, or wind back the clock to a time before (and much removed from) the galaxy’s biggest family of messy men? Let us know in the comments below.
